This was announced in a press statement issued this week by Arnie S. Hodge, the Anguillian Director of Public Relations with Flag Luxury Properties.
The release reads as follows:
“Since the resort’s inception, Flag Luxury and St. Regis have collaborated on the creation of what will be one of the world’s finest resorts. We are justly proud of what we have accomplished together to date and while our respective strategic interests have led to a joint decision for St. Regis to no longer be involved with this particular project, we hope to explore new initiatives together in the future.
“Today we are excited to announce that a new operator for the resort is on board who will continue to share our vision for an “Ultra Luxury” resort which will be the definitive destination of the region and one of the world’s finest and most exclusive properties.
“We look forward to announcing the name of the new operator in a press conference very shortly.”
Responding to the announcement, Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming, said: “I have not been given that in writing, but I did know that the change was coming. I am disappointed that St. Regis is not going to be the managing company because of St. Regis’ history. However, I do know that whoever replaces St. Regis is going to be a good person and I have an idea who the people are.
“Secondly, the only thing about St. Regis I was not too much in favour of was that St. Regis is a brand of hotels which is all over the world; and Anguilla is a unique place where we don’t have that kind of brand situation. We have Cap Juluca, Malliouhana and CuisinArt. There are no Malliouhana Hotels anywhere in the world and so on and I really wanted that kind of situation to stand in Anguilla where we have something different.
“The company that is coming in now is one that is not a big brand and that’s what I like about it. It is much like Cap Juluca or CuisinArt. So all in all, I am very happy with the concept of having a company that is not world-wide.”
