The legal facility is located on the third floor at Hannah-Waver House at the Caribbean Commercial Centre. The imposing building also accommodates Caribbean Juris Chambers on the first floor and other businesses on the second floor.
The establishment of the Regional Law Revision Centre is a collaborative effort of Anguilla, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the UK Department for International Development.
“The official ceremony comes after approximately four years of vision and planning starting in 2003,” a press release from the Attorney General’s Chambers stated on Tuesday, September 25.
The release continued: “An evaluation study was undertaken in June 2004. This study supported the establishment of a Regional Law Revision Centre in the Caribbean region.
At the annual Conference of Attorneys General of the UK Overseas Territories held in the years 2004, 2005 and 2006, the concept of a Regional Law Revision Centre was well received by the Attorneys General of the UK Overseas Territories as well as Attorneys General of independent OECS countries.
“In February 2006 as part of the opening process towards the establishment of a Regional Law Revision Centre, a special meeting was hosted in Anguilla by the Attorney General’s Chambers and attended by officials of the United Kingdom, Anguilla, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
“The Centre will be financed initially by the UK Department for International Development with contributions from Anguilla, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands. The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office will provide technical assistance.
“The Directors of The Regional Law Revision Centre Inc are the Honourable Attorneys General of Anguilla, Montserrat and Turks and Caicos Islands.
“It is envisaged that in time The Regional Law Revision Centre Inc will expand its law revision services to the Caribbean and other jurisdictions.”
