SPECIAL SALUTE TO OUR TOP CAPE AND CSEC STUDENTS


The twelve students from the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School in Anguilla, appearing here, were the top candidates in the May/June 2007, CAPE and CSEC Examinations.

The Ministry of Education also wishes to commend the Principal and staff of the ALHCS for their hard work, commitment and dedication during the past year. The Principal and staff deserve credit for the satisfactory performance of our students on the overseas examinations. Parents and guardians and external tutors must also be commended for their overall contributions.

The Ministry of Education regrets the decline in the overall performance of candidates compared to 2006 but is aware that the ALHCS examination cohort may be the most comprehensive in the region. The Ministry of Education is also concerned about the performance of candidates in Mathemetics, Physics, and Chemistry where only one-third of the candidates received grades 1 to 3.

This is an unacceptable level of performace and the Ministry and Department of Education will be taking measures to address it. During the last school year curriculum officers for Mathematics and Science have been appointed. They will be spending more time in the schools working with the teachers and students to improve both the content and methodology in these areas.

At the CAPE level, the Ministry of Education is very pleased with the improvement in performance of candidates and congratulates all students who excelled.

The Ministry of Education notes, however, that except for one male student, our boys are falling behind their female peers at this level.
