There were a number of criminal incidents in Anguilla between last weekend and early this week, according to the police briefing on Wednesday, September 12, by Superintendent Rudolph Proctor and Detective Sergeant Yearwood.

On September 9 the police received a report of a burglary at Hideaway Supermarket at Little Dicks where one or more intruders entered the building by cutting through the air condition vent in the roof. The cash pan, which contained about EC$65, was taken. Investigations are continuing by the CID.

Investigations are also being carried out into a burglary at North Side which was reported on September 10. It occurred at the home of Laurell Powell and access was gained through a southern window. A number of pieces of jewellery were stolen. The incident took place during the day between 10 and 11 o’clock.

On September 10, Donald Connor of Stoney Ground reported the theft of a chain saw, a matter also being investigated by the police.

Also on that date, the police received a report from the Public Library in the Valley that a laptop computer was stolen from there. The incident occurred over the weekend and a report on the missing equipment was made on Monday morning. Entry was apparently gained through a western window which was found open.

On September 11, Koinike Hodge, of the Quarter, reported that some Campus A students assaulted her. The juveniles were interviewed by the police and further investigations are continuing.

The police are investigating a wounding incident which occurred at Campus A of the Comprehensive School on September 11. One juvenile who suffered a number of stab wounds from another youngster was admitted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where, according to initial reports, he was said to be in stable condition and that his injuries were not life-threatening.

In another wounding incident, it was reported that last Saturday night, September 8, a young man of Island Harbour received a stab wound in his throat area. The police later arrested and charged Elvis Hodge of Welches. He was taken before the Magistrate’s Court on Monday and remanded into custody. The investigations are continuing and the police said that so far they were unable to establish a motive for the incident.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Proctor said that over the weekend the police had made some progress in the murder case involving Devon Ryan of Blowing Point. He was of the view that the police could soon make an arrest and charge some persons. There was however less progress in the investigations surrounding the murder of Stacey Ann Brooks-Laurent.

“We have been working some extremely long hours since these murders,” Proctor stated. He expressed particular concern about Kittitian Devon Otto (Super) who continues to evade police who are anxious to question him. Proctor said he was still in Anguilla and was being sheltered by certain persons on the island. He has appealed to him to give himself up and to report to police headquarters either by himself or with a lawyer.
