The presentation was made on September 7 following remarks by personnel from both organisations. Senior Environmental Officer, Leroy Richardson, said it was the Unit’s 8th Annual Vector Awareness Programme under the theme “Rats to the north to the south, east and west; Help us to get rid of this pest.” The slogan is “Veto The Vector.”
It is the second consecutive year of sponsorship by CCB. “Mosquitoes, rodents, flies, fleas, ticks and termites are just a few of the many pests that can carry virus to cause diseases and destruction to human, homes, crops and livestock,” Richardson stated in thanking the bank.
Health Planner in the Ministry of Social Development, Lynrod Brooks, was grateful to the marketing department of CCB for assistance. He noted that the vector team was unable to do the work alone and stressed the importance of other donors in the community contributing in order that the Environmental Unit could provide high quality services in its vector control programme.
CCB’s Marketing Officer, Cleo Hamm, handed over the cheque to Acting Principal Environmental Health Officer, Ambrell Richardson. He observed that the Environmental Health Unit had been successful in eradicating pests from the island and its education programme had been useful in making the community aware of the various pests. He said CCB was grateful for its inclusion as a donor and looked forward to its continued involvement.
Mr. Richardson thanked the bank for its continuing assistance with the vector programme aimed at controlling pests around homes and in the wider community. He said the money would be used to promote the programme and facilitate the provision of t-shirts, trophies, cash or corporate gifts and tokens for the various winners of competitions to be sponsored by CCB.
The sponsorship will include a Pre-schools Vector Awareness Jingle Competition; a Primary Schools Vector Awareness Poster and Theme Competition; Campus B Stanley Mussington Essay Competition; a Best-kept Cemetery Competition; a Vector Awareness Day Spelling B Competition; a Vector Awareness Day Ceremony; a Walkathon and a display banner.
“The Caribbean Commercial Bank’s sponsorship enabled us to achieve resounding success in the 2006 programme and we believe that the 2007 CCB sponsorship will be just as successful,” he added.
