Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC)


In May/June 2007 a total of 172 candidates from the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School wrote the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examination for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) at the Basic, Technical and General Proficiencies. There were 923 subject entries of which 848 were at the General Proficiency, 32 at the Technical Proficiency and 43 at the Basic Proficiency.

This year registered a decrease in both candidate and subject entries over last year. In May/June 2006 there were 212 candidate entries and 1084 subject entries.
Those subjects offered at Technical Proficiency were: Building Technology Construction, Building Technology Woods and Information Technology. One subject, English A, was offered at both General and Basic Proficiencies.

Thirty three subjects are offered by the Caribbean Examinations Council at the CSEC level. Students at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School entered for 26 of these subjects in 2007.
Performance of Candidates
The overall performance of candidates in the CSEC May/June 2007 examinations showed a drop in performance when compared to that of 2006. Sixty four percent of the subject entries presented for General and Technical proficiencies achieved grades I to III compared with 70.2 percent in 2006 and 70.5 percent in 2005.
Forty one percent of the candidates achieved passes in four or more subjects.
In 13 of the subjects offered, more than 75 percent of the candidates achieved grades I to III and in 4 of the subjects less than 50 percent of the candidates achieved Grades I to III.
