Djambara Art Gallery: African Inspiration For Open Minds

Located in Tomac Plaza Mall, Water Swamp road, DJAMBARA ART GALLERY is one of the latest new projects initiated in Anguilla by Mr. Adama DIALLO, an African-born gentleman from Senegal. He is well traveled and has lived in the Caribbean for 20 years.

“The Djambara African and contemporary Art Gallery project is based on a concept that promotes the African Genius Spirit in modern life with the requirement of an international standard of quality”, says Mr. Adama.

At the first glance, I was very surprised and impressed indeed! The original design of the gallery with the brass gate in the middle invites you to a trip, so far and so near. About this Mr. Adama’s says: “This Gate symbolises the first step in my humble process of building a new bridge between Africa and the Caribbean.”

Then my imagination was caught by the contemporary African paintings that collectors and other people who love art will appreciate. Diatta Seck, Serimacen , Cissé Dia, Kré Mbaye and Bira Kassé, are some of the new, talented and successful artists whose works are featured in the gallery. There is also the Pop Art painting of RV, with the famous portrait of Josephine Baker on metal.

Four amazing sculptures of Mamadi Seydi, a well-known Senegalese sculptor made my imagination think about the richness of African proverbs, an inspiration source of the sculptor.

Other works are those of the TOUAREG people living in the Sahara Desert in Mali and Mauritania, and designing handcraft objects and jewelry by mixing leather, wood, silver and metal, with a high sense of esthetics and beauty and the heritage of their ancestors’ skill.

I would love to decorate my house with the Interior design creations of Claire KANE, a very famous fashion and interior Designer of Senegal. Claire KANE uses the hand woven material made traditionally by the Mandjack artisans in the South of Senegal, to design contemporary, universal and highly fashion clothes for women and men. With the same principle, she designs bed covers, curtains, bed spreads cushions and other beautiful products.

Mr. Adama says he has a passion of art and a great need to communicate with Anguillians, other Caribbean nationals and persons on the American continent, after spending 20 years in the Caribbean. He is willing to share the African culture and art with everyone. “I want to offer to the rest of the world, the best of Africa here in Anguilla and the best of the Caribbean. So let’s celebrate together the AFRICAN GENIUS SPIRIT,” he says.
