Popular Anguillian seamstress, Vonetter Connor, has taken her sewing industry to another level by opening the new building for her expanded business called Bridal Affairs & Beyond Enterprises on the North Hill Road.

The grand opening ceremony on June 8 took the form of a service which was attended by a large number of invited guests. The opening prayer was by Pastor James D. Richardson, Mrs. Connor’s uncle, and the blessing of the building was done by Bishop Errol Brooks.
Family friend Keithley F. T. Lake commended Mrs. Connor for taking the risk to venture out in a bigger way to improve her business. “Until we realise in our society that failure and discouragement are the steppingstones to success, we are not make it,” he stated. “Nothing in life is guaranteed. We have to take chances. We have to take risks.”

He went on: “I know that Vonetter and her family have put in a lot of hard work...but she had a dream and focus and she kept hope as a guide. As we as an island experience more and more growth, we all can’t have the things that everybody else is having. We have to think outside the box and here it is that Vonetter has sought to bring weddings (and the celebrations around weddings). It is a lot of effort where people can now come and say ‘I need a wedding’ and the only thing left for them to do is to write a cheque. Isn’t that a big relief.”
David Carty said he was giving Vonetter and her family all the encouragement that he could. He believed that while she worked towards assisting young people in preparing for their weddings it was possible for her to instil in them that marriage was not just the wedding ceremony but about growing families, the bedrock of the Anguillian society.
“The wedding is a wonderful celebration and a very important institution. Knowing you, your values and family, I think you can leverage the opportunity you have to help these young people to understand [the values of family life].”

Ivor Hodge spoke on behalf of a number of local photographers who have worked with Vonetter during the weddings she arranged and wished her continued success.
Replying, she expressed gratitude to all persons including her family who encouraged and assisted her in the development of her business. Her business will occupy both sections of the newly-built two storey building. There will also be an area to accommodate a massage facility which her husband Nicky Connor is setting up.
Vonetter has been in the bridal business since in 2004. She is an authorised retailer for Mary’s Bridal, Alfred Angelo, David’s Bridal and many others, providing exquisitely designed gowns directly from the manufacturers.
In addition, she provides complete planning arrangements for weddings including procuring the licence, officiant, music, photographer, videographer, florist, caterers and locations for ceremonies/reception. She also offers a complete source of prom, pageant and other social occasion gowns, accessories, invitations and programmes – all of the highest quality and affordable prices.
