FirstCaribbean International Bank donated 25 tickets to the educational institution to allow the students to attend the play’s staging at the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium on Friday and Saturday May 25th and 26th.

“The Island,” written by South African’s Athol Fugard, John Kani and Winston Ntshoni was directed by Felix Fleming. The play focused on the struggle for democracy and the fight against apartheid.

“The Island “ is a powerful story about two political prisoners who put on a play to give hope and inspiration to their fellow inmates. But their friendship survives the rehearsals. The play is surprisingly funny, educational and spiritually uplifting as it demonstrates the power and passion of the human siprit.

Principal of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, Mrs Ingrid Lake, thanked FirstCaribbean for providing the tickets for the students and expressed the hope that they learnt much about the struggle for democracy and the fight against apartheid in South Africa.
