Wall Street Comes To Anguilla: Fisherman Patrick Buys NASDAQ Traded Stock Through The National Bank
|
Recently the National Bank of Anguilla (NBA) announced investor related services including the buying and selling of securities in the global public markets. This inspired young Patrick Webster, noted big game fishermen from Island Harbour to begin to think about higher risk and hopefully higher returns with a small portion of his hard-earned savings.

Serious investment planning took hold of Patrick secondary to the birth of his son about 18 months ago and who was christened by Father Hodge, Terrel Smith (Mother, Kieffe Smith). First, he built several lobster traps for his son and has saved all the proceeds from those traps in an NBA account for young Terrel.
The idea was simply that he wanted his son to have every advanced education opportunity upon graduating from secondary school in Anguilla. While keeping the majority of these savings in the bank offers important security, Patrick decided to invest a very small portion into a high technology public company in hopes of significant stock gains notwithstanding the correspondingly higher risk of any stock investments. As might be expected from an Island Harbour fisherman, some risk taking is appealing and certainly quite normal for a man with his occupation.
Interestingly, Island Harbour fishermen often meet notable people, and Patrick had taken a visiting gentleman by the name of Kent Murphy out boating and sightseeing. Additionally, Kent (as CEO and founder of a company by the name of Luna Innovations) was in the midst of taking his company public on the NASDAQ exchange (stock symbol: LUNA). This boat ride got Patrick thinking about investing in Kent’s company after talking with him about the products and services of the company. Notably, Patrick’s Island Harbour nickname is “de chemist” – as he is curious and knowledgeable in matters related to the unseen, imponderable and unexplored. Luna Innovations is involved in such science and technologies, including nano particles and gee-wiz matter often called bucky balls.
Therein last week, Patrick simply went to meet with the investor banking team at the NBA and bought some Luna Innovations stock. Ms. Caroll Morton assisted Patrick with the paperwork, and the transaction was timely, affordable and simple. Conveniently, the stock is managed through the NBA in partnership with CitiGroup SmithBarney. The stock is held in “street name” in an NBA SmithBarney account without costly stock transfer or the concerns associated with keeping stock certificates on hand. Fisherman Patrick met Wall Street in Anguilla and has joined the global investment community through the new and wonderful investment services provided by the National Bank of Anguilla.
