Students with The Journal

The driving force behind the newsletter is LeRoy Hill, Head of the Humanities Department, who has set up a committee of students and teachers to handle and oversee the publication.
“The Journal has been in existence since 1996 and it was started with the concept of giving students a voice and to practice journalism and some time in 2003 it stopped and we are now re-launching it and taking it up to a different level,” he told a press briefing. “We are thought about the whole format of a newspaper and are thinking about including the community and so we have included a parent and teacher section as well.”
He spoke about future plans to expand the 8-page newsletter which has as is Editor Rita Celestine Carty, a teacher and writer at the school. Other Staff Sponsors are Alison Zeagman, Collett Jones, Janiera Challenger, LeRoy Hill, Magdalene Gumbs, Mitchelle Carty, Natasha Anthony, Colin Johnson and Michelle Roberts.
Contributors to the May 2007 edition are students Eliad Baez, Krstal Webster, Krystie Webster, Senegal Carty, Mikeela Skellekie, Raquell Hazell, Stephanie Johnson, Mervil Nisbet, Janai Gunbs, Meesha Richardson, Arthur Ward and Jenifer Mussington.
The students involved with the newsletter are from Third Form up, thus ensuring that there are youngsters available at the school over the coming years to produce The Journal which is being printed by the Daily Herald in St. Maarten.
