St. Regis, Temenos, Flags, Troon Golf Adopt Road School

The Road Primary School, now in need of a thorough refurbishing and facelift, is getting some very commendable assistance from St. Regis/Temenos Villas, Flag Luxury Properties and Troon Golf. The developers are doing the work as a partnership with the school.

“What we want to do is not only to offer monetary contributions, but also give our services through human resources and equipment,” Sharon Lloyd-Richardson, Human Resource Manager for St. Regis/Temenos, said. “It is going to be a continuation not only for one year. It is something that we have gone into so long as these properties are around. We want to have this school under our wing to asssist in whatever way we can.”

She stated that it was just about two weeks ago that she and others had met with the Principal of the School, Ornette Edwards-Gumbs, to get a clear understanding of the needs there.

On Tuesday this week, workers from the properties began painting the school’s auditorium, and bathrooms; installing fixtures, fans and vents; enhancing the computer room, cleaning the air-conditioners and doing electricity and other work. Also included in the work is the improvement of the grounds of the school to be undertaken later on by the Landscaping Department of Flags Luxury Properties.

According to Mrs. Lloyd Richardson, the properties will also assist with the development of the school’s library by contributing books; and providing indoor games for the children who are challenged by the rugged and dusty school grounds.

“We believe in contributing back to the community and this is our way of doing it,” said the well-spoken representative of the properties.

She went on: “I must say that our General Manager, Brian Schultt, who is presently off island, is very much eager and happy to assist the school. I must stress that he not only believes in the monetary part of assisting the school, but the involvement of management and staff in contributing human resource assistance as well. As I have said, all of this will be on a continuing basis. We have adopted Road Primary School, I would say.”

Mrs. Edwards-Gumbs, Principal of the school, had this to say: “I wish to thank the properties on behalf of the staff for the projects taken on and for initiatives like these. I realise that Government by itself cannot do everything and so we are very grateful that the properties have taken us on board; and so I am glad to see them ‘invading’ the school.”
