National Disgrace At Shoal Bay |
The Editor
The Anguillian
Dear Sir:
NATIONAL DISGRCE AT SHOAL BAY
We have a national disgrace at the western end of Shoal Bay East in and around the sea grape trees between the built developments.
This is where young people party at night and where we have seen tourists quickly leave because it is filthy and unhealthy.
Following is a list of infractions that have now led to a national disgrace at what is supposed to be one of the “best and “pristine” beaches in the world…the very beaches that we are advertising to attract visitors to Anguilla:
• Cutting down sea grape trees for open bonfire on the beach
• Leaving burnt wood and charcoal directly on the beach
• Leaving splintered limbs on the beach near the shoreline after each bonfire party
• Nailing wooden shelves into the sea grape trees for permanent partying;
• Leaving all manner of garbage including condoms and pampers thus attracting a permanent flock of chickens scavenging around the garbage and on visitors’ blankets and towels
• Driving and parking directly on the beach
• Human and dog excrement under the trees and on the beach
• No garbage cans or restrooms for public use
• No regulatory signs; no litter wardens
• No government clean-up campaigns, no obvious regulations; no enforcement of laws.
