The beach in Blowing Point was one of the first beaches this season to benefit from Johnno’s Beach Clean-Up Campaign sponsored by Digicel for the second consecutive year.

The Campaign began originally in Sandy Ground by Johnno who was fed up of seeing Anguilla’s beautiful beaches trashed and neglected. He and Leroy Martinez along with the Anguilla National Trust developed a campaign that is an island-wide undertaking to ensure that Anguilla’s beaches, one the country’s most precious natural resources, are kept clean and cared for.
“The beaches are one of Anguilla’s few natural resources and it’s important that we take care of them; and I’d like to thank Digicel for realizing the importance of this Campaign by showing their continuous support not only in money but effort as well,” said Johnno.

“Digicel is proud to sponsor the Beach Clean-Up Campaign for the second consecutive and is privileged to work with dedicated individuals like Johnno and Leroy Martinez. The support of the Anguilla National Trust has been invaluable and I commend the organization for their proactive stance and commitment to creating a better environment,” commented Stephenie Brooks, Manager Digicel Anguilla.
While most people were in their beds sleeping last Saturday morning members of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School Environmental Club were assembling themselves outside the Anguilla National Trust Building preparing to make Blowing Point Beach sparkle.
Over 15 student members, with trash bags in hand, picked up and bagged all manner of debris from paper and bottles to wires and metal drums.
By 8 am the sun was indeed hot, but these committed club members would not be deterred from the task at hand. When all was said and done they had 52 bags of trash in a neat pile.
When all was said and done, the ALHCS Environmental Club had raised $260 USD and enjoyed breakfast compliments of Johnno.
Who says trash doesn’t pay?
