The sponsorship is part of the Club’s Breast Cancer Awareness programme organized by the health committee of Programme Action, headed by Pamela Connor. Five ladies who needed the test were chosen by the nurse in charge from each of the five clinics on the island. On Wednesday March 7 a cheque was handed over by Soroptimist Pamela to Nurse Bennett to cover the cost of the mammograms that are US$90.00 each.

Connor told the Daily Herald that the Club hopes to extend the mammogram support especially during the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness month, and funds for this are now being raised. There are also plans to expand and include pap smears for women and to put out a leaflet encouraging women to take these two tests regularly.
