Cycling Race Successful


The first cycle race of the year took place at 1:44 pm, in front of C&W, on Sunday, February 25, 2007. As usual, it was a grand a spectator’s event. A large number of persons showed up to support their respective cycling teams or cyclist. The race commenced with a total of 27 cyclists from Anguilla and neighboring Island St. Maarten/Martin.

Some of the Cycling Clubs represented were V8 Club, VCG Club, Stingers Club, Dragon Boys Club and other independent cyclist. The race was a grueling 100 km/62miles that took the cyclists from C&W down to West End and back up to C&W through the Airport Road and around the Queen Elisabeth Ave. 2 times and then 10 laps from C&W around Queen Elizabeth Ave. 1st position was taken by Kris Pradel (AXA) with a time of 2hours 47 minutes. 2nd was by Sherwin Osborne (AXA) time 2hrs 47min 6sec. 3rd Gordon Kennedy (VCG SXM) time 2hrs 53min. 4th Michael Phillip (V8 SXM) time 2hrs 53min 10sec. The 5th and final position went to Danny Laud (Stingers AXA) time 2hrs 53min 11sec.

Sprint prizes were also awarded to the first cyclist who crossed the start/finish line for the first 5 laps of the 10 lap circuit. Mr. Sherwin Osborne took the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th where as Kris Pradel took the 4th sprint prize.
