Health Authority Appoints New Director Of Nursing Services


Mrs. Cherrille Franklin has been recruited as the Director of Nursing Services with effect from February 19th, 2007. Mrs. Franklin is a national of Anguilla who has had extensive experience in the field of nursing. She obtained her Associates in Nursing Degree from the College of Virgin Islands, St. Thomas in 1970 where she was awarded Nursing Student of the Year. She later obtained her Baccalaureate in Health Care Administration from St. Josephs College, Maine, USA in 2000.

Her professional training was mainly in a number of hospitals in Toronto, Canada where she obtained hands-on training as a Registered Nurse and held a number of supervisory and managerial appointments. These appointments included areas such as surgery, medicine, obstertric-gynecology, psychiatry, and accident and emergency. The last 5-years of Mrs. Franklin’s tenure in Canada was with the Ontario Nurses Association, Toronto where she was employed as a Professional Practice Specialist collecting and analyzing documentation related to workplace concerns and facilitating on-site educational sessions.

In commenting on her appointment, CEO Dexter James opined that he was happy that the organization was able to transition the management of nursing services to allow for a smooth succession. He commended Mrs. Franklin for returning to Anguilla to give national service in the continued development of Anguilla’s health services. He noted the significant contribution that outgoing Director of Nursing Services, Ms Tatlin Fider has made in laying the foundation for the future development of sustained nursing services. She will proceed on post-contract leave on March 29th, 2007.
