Tribute: "Come, Sweet Death"
|
With the passing of Harold Henry Hodge of East End, Anguilla has lost a great patriot and loving citizen. His memory will live on for a long time in the hearts and minds of family, friends and all others who knew and admired him.

The late Harold Hodge
|
His humility and God-fearing virtues, his quiet, satisfied, full and noble life, and the amusement he often shared, are characteristics which cannot easily be forgotten.
Harold Hodge, Pa, Uncle Harold, Haboo, Chiquito, are some of the names by which this stout-hearted Anguillian was often fondly called.
As he advanced in age, so did he mature in his spiritual life and all that mattered was a longing for his passage from this life aboard “The Ship of Zion” to the Great Beyond and eventually God’s Kingdom. For him death was a sweet relief and hope. He was in agreement with the Bible that except a grain of wheat dies, it shall not live again. Thus he saw his destiny with death as a passage to life eternal and welcomed it. “Come, sweet death,” he seemed to say.
This beloved Anguillian, whose life fortunately spanned the decades of the old and new Anguilla, fell asleep on February 9, 2007, at the age of 94 years. His funeral takes place at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church in his home village this Friday, February 16.
