Veya Restaurant, Sandy Ground, Cotemer Restaurant, Island Harbour, Benefit From Calm Seas

Last week the fishermen cast off the moorings and chased the big fish because the sea went almost dead calm. The ocean conditions could have only been described as smooth, cloudless, bright and colorful with an early migrating whale in the very deep water, about 16 miles to the east of Anguilla. In these sea conditions the fish almost always bite possibly because they can easily see the bait due to the smooth ocean surface and extraordinary sunlight penetrating the water.

Friday last, Patrick Webster and Wayne John caught 13 large and small Dolphins and one 50 pound Yellow Fin tuna in three short hours, fishing in 3,000-foot depths. Several of the Dolphins were in the 30 pound category. The fishermen were forced home because they exhausted their abundant ice supply and fresh fish preservation capability. The fishing fever carried over to Saturday which produced two additional Dolphins and a spectacular Wahoo caught on the eastern deep water edge of the Anguilla shelf at 450 feet.

Notably, Patrick Webster strictly adheres to the secret East Asian techniques of fish landing and meticulous preservation in an effort to deliver only the freshest, highest quality catch possible. The Yellow Fin Tuna was delivered to the newly opened Veya Restaurant in Sandy Ground and the Wahoo was taken by the recently opened and already acclaimed CotèMer Restaurant, Island Harbour.
