HAA's Appreciation & Awards Ceremony 2006

The 3rd annual Recognition and Awards Ceremony of the Anguilla Health Authority (AHA) was held at the Anguilla Great House, Rendezvous Bay recently.
Attracting a cross section of the island community, the event had as its theme ‘Harmony in Achieving Our Aims.’ Like in previous years, the event was very well attended.

Ms. Carol Richardson, Coordinator, Financial Accounting (ag) was the chairperson for the evening’s gala affair. Gerdia Harrigan, Claims Officer, opened the evening with a prayer.
In her brief opening remarks, Dr. Phyllis Fleming Banks, chairperson of the AHA Board of Directors said that the night “belongs to the workers” of the Health Authority of Anguilla.

She noted that as the organization works towards gaining international accreditation and recognition, this could not be accomplished without the people “on the frontline.”- the workers.
Dr. Fleming-Banks personally commended Mr. Eric Reid, the former Anguilla Health Minister who was present in the audience, for his long standing support for the organization over the years. Mr. Reid currently serves as a Special Adviser in the Office of the Chief Minister of Anguilla.
Meridith Gumbs, Human Resources Manager, delivered the keynote address in which she duly recognized and highlighted the hard work and dedication of the staff. Mrs.Gumbs reminded the employees of the need to deliver quality service to the clients.
The Human Resources Manager noted that it is the duty of management to ensure that staff members are appropriately rewarded.
‘Taking Note of the Little Victories’ was the theme chosen for the feature address, which was basically a continuation of her 2005 address on the topic ‘Excellence is not an act but a habit.’
“We all need to be mindful that our employees are the backbone, the success, of our organization,” said Mrs.Gumbs adding that “ without them we can achieve nothing.”
She continued “ As a consequence, we should at all times help them recognize their worth.”
Mrs. Gumbs said that despite employees talents and abilities, if they do not have a sense of security and self-worth, and are not motivated, they will never wholeheartedly accept and implement the necessary processes to achieve individual, departmental and, by extension, organizational goals.
She noted that “as we move into 2007, let us poise ourselves to address positively the various changes in the internal and external environment with which we will be confronted.”
The many prizes provided by members of the Anguilla business community and won by lucky tickets holders provided another celebratory dimension to the entire affair.
