Developers Urged To Help Anguilla More: KOR GROUP GIVES US$1M, PROMISES ANOTHER Adler Donates US$25

The hand of the Anguilla Government has been strengthened by investors with the KOR Group involved in the construction of the Viceroy Barnes Bay Tourism Development Project.

The KOR Group, represented by Alex Samek, Director of Acquisitions and Development, recently presented the Government with a symbolic cheque for one million US dollars towards the completion of the Alwyn Allison Primary School at West End and other services there. The Group has undertaken to contribute later this year another million US dollars to finance the building of a new primary school at Island Harbour. The company has also funded the purchase of two new school buses which are expected to Tarrive in Anguilla shortly from the United States.

Mr. Dean Adler, who heads the world’s largest financing real estate institution and is a financier of the KOR Group, has also undertaken to donate US$250,000 to the Anguilla Government for hospitality training for many of the island’s nationals. The money comes in handy now that the Government has established a National Community College Unit with hospitality being one of the first courses to be introduced late last year.
“We are very excited to be involved in Anguilla with the community here,” Mr. Adler stated at the presentation ceremony in the Chief Minister’s Office. “This whole development must be a win-win situation and community issues such as training, education and health care are paramount to our participation in this island. One of my own personal interests is improvements in education and training. So in addition to the million-dollar gift, I personally will contribute $250,000 towards starting a hospitality and training programme. It will be the first instalment to make it a model for the developing community to enhance the quality of life for Anguilla.”
Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming said his Government was very appreciative of the contributions by the KOR Group. He stated that he was putting all developers on notice that they were being required to contribute to community development.

“We believe that if you are to be a good corporate citizen, you must participate in Anguilla’s development – especially in the area that we are concerned about – social development which this Government has as its priority in 2007.”
On the other donation, Mr. Fleming said he and Mr. Adler had a very extensive discussion and he was very appreciative of his vision for Anguilla in addition to that of the Government. “It all entails improving the standard of life in Anguilla. Mr. Adler is a very concerned person about training, education and health care…We do have a partner in him and we really appreciate that.”
Minister of Finance, Victor Banks stated that the contributions from the KOR Group were the culmination of a lot of hard work and negotiation involving the Government of Anguilla, the KOR Group and Mr. Adler.
He added that he was proud to be associated with the Viceroy project and, after the long negotiations, had finally received the first donation of the two million US dollars for educational development (school buildings) in Anguilla. “I believe that developers who come to Anguilla must recognise that when they assist in the social sector in ways like this, they are actually securing their investment. It will not strive and prosper unless social stability exists within the community, and this is something that this Government has been very strong about.”
Mr. Banks also thanked Mr. Adler for his personal contribution towards hospitality training in Anguilla.

The presentation ceremony was held on December 21 and was chaired by Permanent Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, Foster Rogers.
