Mr. Clinton was surrounded by his own security personnel and aids, some of whom were already in Anguilla to arrange his private visit. A number of top rank and other officers of the Royal Anguilla Police Service were also on hand for added security and as a courtesy to the Clintons.

Members of the local media and other photographers were kept away from the immediate area and only those persons with long lenses were able to get some close-up shots of Mr. Clinton as he disembarked from the aircraft and joined Mrs. Clinton in greeting and shaking hands with the small party of security people and aids.

The couple who stayed at Covecastles Resort, on the western coast of the island, were seen at a number of other properties including the Temenos/St. Regis Golf Course where Mr. Clinton played with a number of local persons; at Cap Juluca Resort and Mangoes Restaurant. They left Anguilla on New Year’s Day as low-key as they came. They were seen on television at the funeral of former President Gerald Ford on Wednesday.

The Washington Post carried a photograph of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton strolling down the beachfront at Covecastles.
