HUNDREDS TOUR, FEAST AT GOLF COURSE
|
The Anguilla Government in cooperation with the developers of the Temenos/St. Regis Golf Course Project took the opportunity of the public holiday on Tuesday, December 19, to arrange a tour of the property by the people of the island and to put on a big feast for them.

The people, Anguillians, residents and visitors, converged en masse on the property, their vehicles taking up almost all of the large parking areas. Once they were on the premises, they were driven in the golf carts or strolled to the selected places for the tour. Many saw the attractive and multi-purpose Golf Club House for the first time which, apart from other facilities, accommodates ZURRA, the upscale restaurant owned by Bob and Belinda Blanchard.

From there, the touring parties were taken to some locations of the actual 18-hole Greg Norman Championship Golf Course and then to the beach side area where estate houses are being constructed. There, in the pleasantness of the magnificent sea view, they began their feasting. Barbecue grills, food stalls and bars offered much to eat and drink under the canopies of the large tents erected for the occasion.

String band music by Smoky & The Boys and Super Fly provided the right rhythm for all, many of whom swayed in their seats or jigged as they moved about.

Chief Minister, Osbourne Fleming, was in his higher element at the event as he addressed the vast crowd.
“Today is our Separation Day Anniversary when Anguilla was separated from St. Kitts-Nevis 26 years ago,” he said over the microphone. “I thought it would have been a good idea to showcase some of what is happening in Anguilla for the people of the island.
“To that end, my Government and my colleague, agreed that we should set aside today as a day whereby Anguillians [and everyone else] would have an opportunity to see this project that they have heard so much about.

“I know that a lot of Anguillians have never seen it and so what we did is that we made a provision whereby they can come today and look on. I am exceptionally pleased to see the large turnout and now I am convinced that a number of Anguillians, when they hear about the golf course, will know what it is all about.
“The function has been financed by the owners of the Temenos/St. Regis Golf Course. They have volunteered to pay for it.”
Peter Kamavos, Vice President, Design and Development, with Flag Luxury Properties, spoke on behalf of the developers and welcomed the Anguillian public to the project.
