Some 56 members of the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCOI) benefited from displaying their goods and services at the Christmas Fair in the courtyard of the Caribbean Commercial Centre for the second consecutive year.

The day-long successful event was held on Saturday, December 16. Several white tents, stacked with various merchandise, filled the area. On the fringes, to the west of the arena, arts and crafts and a food stall occupied some of the space and opened up into a big stage area for varied performances.

“I feel content that we are at the completion of the event we planned for a long time,” Calvin Bartlett, ACCOI’s hard-working Executive Director, told The Anguillian when the Christmas Fair was well in swing. “We had a lot more participation [this year]. The basic objective is that our members are supposed to benefit from this exposure. So far, we can look back to a very successful event. We are trying to promote more local entrepreneurship to get businesses more involved and to see what we can do to help them.”

At home, the membership of ACCOI has grown significantly and the organisation has been able, with the assistance of a cadre of highly skilled persons, to implement various educational programmes for young people in particular. The Chamber has also established close links with the University of the Virgin Islands which is assisting with training courses.

The Chamber has been able to attract financial assistance from the British Government and the Anguilla Government for some of its operations. This is particularly due to the tireless and sacrificial work, foresight and commitment of Mr. Barlett. The business community, young people and others benefiting from the Chamber, owe him and the Board of Directors, a debt of gratitude.
