GOLF COURSE OPENS IN ANGUILLA New Attraction And Delight For Visitors


Friday, November 3, 2006, will go down in the annals of Anguilla’s history as the date when the island’s first ever golf course, destined to be one of the world’s finest, was officially opened. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, set for 7.30 a.m., kicks off the inaugural Marquis Jet-Temenos Golf Club Invitational, the proceeds of which will benefit the Anguilla Children’s Fund. The ceremony has been arranged to take place at the 10th hole of the Golf Club at the St. Regis Resort & Residences.

Among those invited at the ceremony are Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming, other Ministers and officials of Government, golf legend, Greg Norman, Paul Kanavos, CEO, Flag Luxury Properties, LLC and Robert Silerman, CEO, CKX, Inc. and a number of Anguillians including children.

Sponsors of the event include Marquis Jet as the title sponsor, Flag Luxury Properties, LLC and St. Regis Residences, Temenos Anguilla as leading sponsors and Bear, Stearms & Co., the Dan & Blythe Brown Foundation and Deutsche Bank as presenting sponsors.

Created and designed by golf legend Greg Norman, the 18-hole championship course is an integral component of the magnificent St. Regis Resort, Temenos Anguilla, scheduled for completion in the winter of 2008.

“This ultra-deluxe hotel, residential and golf oasis is nestled along a mile of pristine beach on the sun-kissed Caribbean island of Anguilla known for its gorgeous sunsets and romantic getaways,” a media release stated. “The exclusive Temenos Golf Club will be enjoyed by both owners of the resort’s spectacular residences and St. Regis guests alike, with access to the course provided to local Anguillians and guests of other hotels in the area if availability permits.”

The Temenos Golf Club is distinguished by panoramic views and vistas of nearby St. Martin/St. Maarten and the Caribbean Sea incorporating physical and environmental characteristics of the island’s natural terrain including dramatic elevation and water features on 13 holes. The course is managed by Troon Golf, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing.

“I am honoured to have been selected to design Anguilla’s first ever golf course,” said Greg Norman. “The opening of Temenos Golf Club is a testament to the integrity of the Anguilla Government, Flag Luxury Properties and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts in their commitment to this project. I am thrilled to have been involved in such a monumental occasion in the island’s history.”

Meanwhile, it has also been announced that the renowned Blanchard Restaurant, owned by Bob and Melinda Blanchard, will now be operating a second restaurant named “Zurra” within the architecturally stunning 28,000-square-foot Clubhouse at Temenos Golf Club. This coincides with the grand opening of the golf course.
