Cricket Coverage Free To Anguilla

Cable & Wireless has once again demonstrated its commitment to the region, through the announcement of an association with the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC). The agreement recently signed in Barbados provides free cricket coverage of the ICC Champions Trophy (Mini World Cup) 2006 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 to five million radio listeners and TV viewers in some 23 nations across the region.

This agreement, which is valued at over a US $1 million, includes a lead sponsorship in the post match commentary programme “At the Wicket” and will give the company exclusivity to advertise and promote products and services in their brand sector.

Chief Executive Sutcliffe Hodge said, “We are very enthusiastic about this association with CMC, since it complements our decision to become an official sponsor of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.”

This alliance with CMC, and by extension its sub-licensees, will create a platform for Cable & Wireless to showcase the capabilities of its technologically advanced telecommunications network, allowing for the implementation of region-wide promotions during the entire broadcast of the tournament.

Mr Hodge said, “whatever the outcome of the games, it is certain that the actual tournament and coverage of the event will bring enormous pride and unity to the people of the Caribbean to see a world sport played out on their stage - whether they watch it in the stadium, on TV, listen to the radio, or read about it in the newspapers.”

Commenting on the company’s overall cricket sponsorship programme, Mr Hodge stated that one of its priorities in the legacy of this tournament is to continue it’s commitment to develop a world-class telecommunications network which will give impetus to Government’s endeavours to attract potential inward investment in the Caribbean. Cable & Wireless is confident that this will create another opportunity for the people of the Caribbean to Win Big as a region.

Cable & Wireless is more than just a telecommunications provider - it is intrinsically linked to the region through its involvement in the lives of the people in the communities it serves.

This sponsorship will not only keep the Caribbean connected and in the know during the Champions Trophy and Cricket World Cup competitions, but also allow the company to put real meaning to behind the slogan – “Cable & Wireless and Cricket and connect us.” Mr Hodge added.
