ANGLEC Takes an Unselfish Step

Service to the community and mankind may be a big and plausible element in most cases, but the underlying reason that companies and individuals go into business is to make money. And nothing is wrong about that when it is done in a manner that is honest and takes into account the economic wellbeing of those they serve. One way to do so is to keep prices at a reasonable and affordable level for all customers and to come up with strategies and guidelines which may assist the public in using the services being provided to their best advantage and at the same time control consumption and cost.

The Anguilla Electricity Company (ANGLEC) is one of the entities on the island which can easily be blamed for any charges which customers may deem to be exorbitant or for any service they may consider to be lacking. It is therefore necessary for ANGLEC and other service providers to constantly examine how their methods, policies of operation and rate structures may be impacting or perceived by the public and how their business relationships and service can be enhanced.
These days many people take it for granted to turn on a switch or plug in an appliance and enjoy the comfort of electricity without thinking about conservation and therefore reducing their energy bill. On the other hand it is to ANGLEC’s benefit to sit back, let consumers burn all the electricity they want and for the company to make as much money as it can; but not so for this company’s management. The General Manager, Neil McConnie, has just launched a very useful and unselfish booklet entitled An Electricity Conservation Guide for Anguilla which tells consumers how to conserve energy and save money. What the guide does is prevents the company from profiting at the expense of the people and protects their hard-earned dollar.
Mr. McConnie may have been too modest to say that in the booklet. What he said was this veiled and professional statement: The wise and judicious use of electrical energy benefits you, the consuming public and the rest of the world in three direct and distinct ways. It prolongs the availability of natural non-renewable energy sources. It provides the customer with an ideal opportunity to reduce the cost of energy to his/her premises. It reduces the degradation of the environment. Because of the above, ANGLEC has taken time to research and provide you with a compilation of invaluable tips that will help you to continue to enjoy the pleasures and joys of electricity at a cost which you can control.
Well conceived, well thought out and well said. Earlier in his foreword he stated that as a responsible Electric Utility, ANGLEC was aware of its responsibility to consumers to indicate ways in which they could control their electricity usage and thereby manage their bills. This is all very honest and commendable of ANGLEC. It is an example to other service providers in Anguilla to do likewise to assist customers, encourage public faith, trust and patronage.
The Guide Booklet puts ANGLEC in an even more favourable light in the public domain and is testimony that the company has the interest of the people at heart. It is an unselfish and good public relations step which deserves high commendation.
