Anguillian Youngsters Benefit From Commonwealth Youth Exchange 2006

Five young and dynamic young persons recently returned from the Commonwealth Youth Exchange held in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. They were Kerith Kentish (Delegation Head) Leah Hughes (Assistant Head of Delegation), Josef Hughes-Caines, Eduardo Samuels and Dennica Lake. The exchange which was held from August 10 -21 was from all indications, an enjoyable and learning experience.

Ms. Dennica Lake, described it as, a fulfilling experience that allowed us to gain insight into the various issues affecting young people throughout the Commonwealth Caribbean.
Mr. Samuels, a member of the Anguilla Cadet Corps, describe the exchange as, the most enlightening and exciting experience in my life. He observed that the opportunity to interact with so many young people from different backgrounds and cultures as his most memorable experience.

Anguilla leads the parade

The exchange which was organized by the Commonwealth Youth Programme Caribbean Centre had as its objectives: develop international understanding and networks among the young people of the region; provide young people with opportunities to discuss common problems and solutions of priority concern to them; expose young people to the various cultures of the region in order to generate interest in them for their own involvement in programmes that are beneficial to other young people; enable young people to appreciate the variety of cultures, races and attributes with which the region is endowed, by traveling and interacting with a cross-section of the peoples and societies of the region; provide young people with up-to-date and relevant information on the CYP priority areas; give youths the experience of observing, planning, organizing and implementing projects; raise the profile of CYP by creating awareness among young people and other groups and deepen the integration movement.
Countries and territories participating in the exchange were Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, The British Virgin Islands, Canada, The Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
