Band Camp Ends With Concert

Over forty young musicians from all across Anguilla ended their exciting two-week experience with a lunch hour concert at the Gazebo on the grounds of the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium in The Valley on Friday, July 14.

The annual band camp, which was conceptualised by music teachers at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, is designed to reach and motivate children though music and to teach music appreciation through exposure to the various instruments of the concert band.

During the camp participants were involved in various components of music including tone production, score reading and ensemble playing. Students performed to a large and appreciative crowd who heard selections from a varied repertoire studied over the two-week period.

“We are looking forward to incorporating these instrumentalists into the band as soon as possible,” remarked Concert Band Director, Lennox Vanterpool. “They have all shown keen interest and ability to do well should they decide to continue with us.”
Other facilitators for the camp included clarinetist Kimba Carty-Southwell and drummer/percussionist, Eric Frazer.

The music department of the Comprehensive School has expressed thanks to the Anguilla Development Board for the gift of instruments which has helped to make this year’s camp a resounding success.
