A press release was issued to that effect on Wednesday, July 19, by Mr. Benjamin. It followed claims made by Bankie Banx, on Radio on Saturday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 18, that outside performers were being given more support than local entertainers.

Following is the text of Mr. Benjamin’s release:

“As Chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board and the Anguilla Summer Festival, I take this opportunity to inform the general public that the Anguilla Tourist Board, the Festival Office, Mr. Fitzroy Tomlinson and I have always being supportive of Anguillian Artistes and over the years contributed significantly in cash and services to various artistes, especially Bankie Banks and will continue to do so despite what is being said on the airways by Mr. Bankie Banks.

“To this end I was honoured by him in 2005 for continued support of the Moonsplash Music Festival with a plaque.

“I take this opportunity to thank the members of the general public who called and gave their support to us.”

John Benjamin,
Chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board and
The Anguilla Summer Festival.
