Mrs. Carty told The Anguillian that she was very pleased and very proud to have been honoured by The Queen and that she was looking forward to continuing her community services in Anguilla.
She is well known for her excellent work as the Anguilla Journalist and Feature Writer for the Daily Herald of St Maarten, for many years, and as a longstanding member of the Soroptimist Club and other community organisations.
Her writing skills and passion have led her to be the author of two booklets: Anguilla Beyond the Beaches and Anguilla Tranquil Isle of the Caribbean. She is also a contributor to other publications including The Anguillian Newspaper.
Mrs. Carty has served as Federation Councillor with the Soroptimist Club, President for two terms and continues to serve in other capacities. She was a member of the Community Foundation Board and the Anguilla Tennis Academy Board. She is a member of the Anguilla Arts Festival Board, the Fountain Cavern Board, the Anguilla National Trust and Anguilla Archaeological and Historical Society and serves as organist at Zion Methodist Church at North Hill.
Born in the United Kingdom (and now a belonger of Anguilla) Mrs. Carty, a Homerton College, Cambridge graduate, taught for five years in England. She later taught in Trinidad at the Texaco Primary School for fifteen years and served as Principal of the Cedar Grove Private School in that Commonwealth Caribbean country for five years. It was in Trinidad that she met her Anguillian husband, Alan Carty, who was then serving with Texaco. The couple eventually came to Anguilla where they reside at North Ridge, North Hill.
The Anguillian congratulates Mrs. Carty on a well-deserved MBE award.
