New Ferryboat Joins Fleet
|
The Amalia has become the newest vessel to join the fleet of Anguillian ferryboats. Owned by Alin Connor, the catamaran arrived on the island over the past weekend from St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, where it had been in service in the tourism industry.

“I know tourists will love how the boat is because it is open throughout and needs no air-conditioning,” said Connor, as he showed off the ferry tied up at the Blowing Point pier moorings.
The spacious and airy 1994-built boat has a serving bar in the middle of the first deck with comfortable and surrounding cushioned seats. The same seating accommodation except for the bar is repeated at the top deck.
Connor stated that the design and colour schemes of the boat were aimed at making the vessel attractive to and comfortable for passengers. According to him up to eighty passengers can be accommodated.
As it stands, the boat is ideal for sunset cruises and charters. However, Mr. Connor is thinking about adding more seats later on and to do other minor changes to accommodate larger numbers of travellers to St. Martin/St. Maarten. Any expansion of the seating area may provide accommodation for fifty additional persons.
The Amalia is powered by two 450 horse-power engines; it has three sitting areas, two toilet facilities and there are seven water-sealed hatches on each side of the catamaran among other safety features.
The ferryboat will begin its service as soon as certain adjustments are made.
Connor lives with his wife and family in St. Maarten.
