Anguillian Now Legal Draftperson/Crown counsel
|
Anguillian Lawyer, Chanelle Petty-Barrett, has returned to the Public Service and has taken up a new appointment as Legal Draftsperson/Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers. She assumed her duties on Wednesday this week, June 14, in an area which until recently did not attract Anguillians.

She previously served as Crown Counsel and Senior Crown Counsel (Criminal). She resigned from the Attorney General’s Chambers in March 2005 and engaged in private practice as an associate at Keithley Lake & Associates. Her return to the Chambers should add a further element of stability to the drafting unit, which has in the past been known to suffer from prolonged vacancies.
Mrs. Petty-Barrett has indicated that while her tenure at Keithley Lake & Associates was a wonderful experience, and one that she will surely miss, she was looking forward to the new challenges drafting will present. She views her new appointment as merely another avenue in which to offer service to Anguilla.
During her eight years in the Attorney General’s Chambers, she demonstrated a high level of skill and commitment in the discharge of her duties. It is expected that she will show the same level of commitment to her new role as a Legislative Drafter and that she will excel in this area of the law.
Meanwhile, Mr Keithley Lake has showered Mrs. Petty-Barrett with praise for her work in his law firm. He said she worked there for approximately fifteen months and during that time she contributed significantly to the development and advancement of the firm.
“We, as colleagues, were certainly impressed with her intelligence, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence. She quickly established herself as an attorney within the office and her clients embraced her because of those qualities,” Mr. Lake told The Anguillian. “It was with some sadness and regret that we accepted her resignation to pursue these new challenges at the Attorney General’s Chambers. She will be greatly missed as we have told her personally over and over. We wish her the very best in her new endeavours and she has an open invitation to return whenever she is ready. We really enjoyed having Chan who is hard-working and works quietly without any fuss whatsoever.”
The Anguillian wishes Mrs. Petty-Barrett much success as she continues to explore new horizons in the legal profession.
