Students Awarded For French & Spanish

The Modern Languages Department of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School has recognised 32 students in Years Two and Three for their performance in the recent French and Spanish Spelling B competitions. The awards ceremony was held during the morning assembly at Campus B on Friday, June 9.

The events are part of the school’s annual inter-house sporting and academic competitions. Four students representing each house responded in writing or orally to questions in six categories: adjectives, irregular verbs, regular verbs, vocabulary, translations and spoken responses to situations.
Purple House won the French trophy. It was represented by Nina Rodriquez and Jiva Niles in Year Two and Tawnya Richardson and Melena Halley in Year Three.
The Spanish prize was won by Orange House students Keisy Pina and Edilly Garcia in Year Two and Victor Richardson and Carencia Rouse in Year Three.

Some of the aims of the annual competitions are: to encourage a positive attitude among students towards the study of foreign languages and culture; improve the language competencies of students who study French and Spanish; promote awareness and confidence in the correct use of languages; and help students gain a sense of personal achievement.
All students received certificates of participation as well as French and Spanish study guides. Members of the winning teams also received CDs of songs in the target language.

The trophies and other prizes were presented to the students by Ms. Polyanna Kumara, representing the firm of Webster, Dyrud, Mitchell and First Anguilla Trust Company and Mrs. Mimi Connor, Head of the Department of Modern Languages.
The teachers and students of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, particularly the Department of Modern Languages, have expressed gratitude to Webster, Dyrud Mitchell and First Anguilla Trust Company for their continued generous and exclusive support of the school’s activity.
