Governor Presents Scene Of Crime Vehicle |
The Royal Anguilla Police Force now has a state-of the-art vehicle to be used at crime scenes on the island. It was presented on Wednesday, May 31 by Governor Alan Huckle, in the run-up to his departure from the island.
Speaking on behalf of Chief Minister, Osbourne Fleming, Minister of Finance, Victor Banks, said the Government was grateful for the vehicle which was purchased through the Good Government Fund. “This vehicle will go a long way towards addressing some of the critical shortcomings of the present-day police force in its operations particularly in dealing with crime scenes,” he said. Mr. Banks stated that there had been a steady increase in the success of the police in solving crimes committed in Anguilla over the past six months.
Governor Huckle said the vehicle had all the necessary equipment inside to secure a crime scene and to prevent contamination of forensic evidence. He disclosed that the vehicle was purchased at a cost of sixty-one thousand pounds, the equivalent of EC$302,287.00. He added that the police force was fundamental to the island’s security and the preservation of law and order and that during his two years in office, a sum of EC$1,377,000 was spent on the police from the Good Government Fund.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Illidge Richardson, thanked the Governor for the vehicle. He said the police were committed to serving the people of Anguilla to the best of their ability. He urged the officers to use their training and experience to better serve the public in a professional manner.
