Chief Fire Officer, Horace Archer, told the Governor that his staff members were grateful to him for his support with the development of his department in terms of equipment, training and an increased number of employees.

The Governor spoke about the importance of a unified fire and rescue service for Anguilla, which will be developed with supporting legislation. He explained that the legislation would introduce new fire safety precautions and requirements throughout Anguilla, not least for the developers who will be required to put in proper fire safety equipment including hydrants and standing water supplies.

The second gift was presented by Deputy Superintendent of Prison, Neville Hamilton. He was also grateful to Mr. Huckle for his assistance in improving conditions at the prison. The Governor praised the work of the prison officers who have to contend with some difficult “customers” and hoped that the new prison now being planned would provide a better service for both the officers and the prisoners.
