NBA Finances Public Table Tennis Boards
|
The National Bank of Anguilla has financed twenty table tennis boards for community use on the island to the tune of EC$15,633.00. A symbolic cheque in that amount was presented to Minister of Social Development, Evans Rogers, by NBA’s Chief Executive Officer E. Valentine Banks on Wednesday, April 5.

Mr. Banks said some months ago the Minister had indicated to him that it would be a good idea if table tennis was revived on the island and the bank eventually agreed to fund the proposal. NBA took into account that there were several negative social influences creeping into the lives of the youth and decided it could help reduce those influences by providing the equipment.
Banks hoped that the tennis boards would be spread across the island in schools, community halls and church halls, thus resulting in positive sporting activities for young people in particular. He indicated that NBA would look favourably on a proposal for the sponsorship of a tennis competition in due course.
Mr. Rogers welcomed the support of the bank on behalf of the Government and people of Anguilla. He said he would take up the challenge of having a national competition with NBA’s sponsorship and promised that NBA’s logo would be prominently displayed on the tennis boards.
The Minister revealed that he had just received a communiqué from the International Table Tennis Federation inviting Anguillians to participate in a workshop for coaches to be held in St.Vincent in May 15-20. He said that his Ministry was in the process of identifying a number of table tennis players to attend the coaching sessions. Mr. Rogers added that this was an effort to develop the techniques of the sport in Anguilla.
