|
Art Café is Anguilla’s newest gallery and is located in the Coconut Paradise Building at Island Harbour. It is owned by Elizabeth Chronicka-Pavluk and Janus Pavluk. The current exhibition is an exciting one with oil and mixed media paintings by talented Spanish artist Rosa Guasch. The building has undergone considerable renovations and is a spacious gallery with ample space for displays on the walls and interior panels.

The lighting is excellent and specially designed for maximum effect.
Rosa Guasch visited Anguilla last year for the Summer Festival and the beauty of the island provoked her to express her artistic emotions in paintings. She painted 12 of the paintings on show during her visit and the other 12 when she returned to Toronto where she now resides. The paintings include scenes of carnival, boats, seascapes and people.
Rosa says Anguilla is colour, people, fun, beauty and emotions and she tried to convey this in her art. She has been painting since the age of twelve. She studied the history of art at Barcelona University where she graduated and later won scholarships that enabled her to further her studies in art in Florence and Madrid. In 1999 Rosa left Spain and moved to Canada. Her work can be found in Spain, the USA and Canada where she has held many solo exhibitions.
There is a Caribbean feeling in the gallery and visitors can relax and enjoy the art as well as stay at the café for coffee, breakfast or lunch served on the balcony under umbrellas.
The current exhibition will continue for three weeks and then the work of Justine Miklasiewicz will be shown. Justine is the artist who was resident at CuisinArt and her work is well known in Anguilla. Future plans are to show the work of local artists from Anguilla and St Maarten as well as displaying glass and wood sculpture.
