The pageant has been renamed to reflect interest and participation from regional countries outside the Leeward Islands. New comers from, St. Lucia, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago and St. Vincent will join representatives from Antigua & Barbuda, St. Maarten/St. Martin, St. Kitts-Nevis, the British and US Virgin Islands, Montserrat and host island, Anguilla.

Digicel’s sponsorship this year amounts to US$11,000. “We are very excited to be part of this local initiative with a regional outreach and positive impact,” said Stephenie Brooks, Market Manager for Digicel. “Our commitment to Digicel’s Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant is long-term and comprehensive as we value the overall premise of the pageant which seeks to build self-esteem and confidence in the girls.”

Chairman of the pageant, Karl Woodley, said the original Anguilla Talented Teen Pageant was started in August 1997 with sponsorship from the Caribbean Commercial Bank. Two years later it was expanded to include a number of Leeward Islands and has been actively involved in celebrations of the Anguilla Day and in cultural shows outside the island. Its further development to include other Caribbean islands is an indication of its continued growth and success. Woodley added that Digicel’s sponsorship was a big contribution to the pageant.

He was joined by Vice Chairman, Romare Kelsick, who said it was the first time that such a major sponsor had come forward in Anguilla to promote the development of cultural education at the local and regional level.

The reigning Miss Talented Teen in Anguilla, OluFunmike Banks-Devonish said: “Having Digicel as the platinum sponsor means that the pageant’s future is secure, and upcoming contestants will benefit from Digicel’s long-term commitment to the social development of the region’s teens.” She added that she was looking forward to the show and to face the new challenges by the expansion of the competition to the wider Caribbean.

The popular show, which usually attracts a supportive and enthusiastic crowd, is scheduled for Saturday, May 27, at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre. According to Mr. Woodley, the contestants will make four appearances: promotional speech, talent competition, evening wear and interview.
