“It is the second year that this group of community partners have seen it fit to assist the school in this road race,” acknowledged the Principal of the school, Darwin Hazell, at a press briefing on Tuesday, March 7.

Physical Education Teacher and Games Master, Rollins Richardson, expressed thanks and appreciation to the joint companies for the sponsorship which he said would enhance the road race to a great extent. He said that last year the companies offered to sponsor the event but this was not possible due to the lateness of the time.

Mr. Richardson stated that this year the sponsorship would include trophies, t-shirts, refreshments, numbers and themes for the competitors as well as prize money in the form of vouchers. “Usually, the road race has about 500 students participating as each house tries to get maximum points during the event,” he stated. “The race is organised in such a way that every student who finishes the event within a certain time, can give his/her house points. Therefore, houses go out of the way to get as many students to participate as possible. Accordingly, this sponsorship takes a great burden off the school.”

Speaking on behalf of Fair Play Group of Companies, Operations Manager, Chan Richardson remarked that, “Once again, it is a privilege for NAGICO and Fair Play Group of Companies to be associated with the development of sports in Anguilla.” She said, “Over the last 20 years we have been associated with the development of cricket, football, netball and boat-racing on the island. For the second year, we have been associated with the Annual Inter-House Road Race of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School. Our sponsorship this year will total approximately 4,500 US dollars. This will include cash prizes for the winning house and the first five persons finishing in each of the four races. There will also be some 20 trophies given.”

Ms Richardson added that the companies’ partnership in the road race would continue over the next three years and possibly for an additional five years.
