“I am here to make a contribution of five thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars towards the enhancement of the stage and the surrounding areas for Moonsplash,” Mr. Lake, who is also the Founder of the Anguilla Tennis Academy, said at the office of The Anguillian, on Tuesday, February 21.
“I am very proud of Bankie and his team and for the work that they have done fore the past 16 years here in Anguilla to bring Moonsplash to the people whereby they are promoting tourism through entertainment,” Lake went on. “I think it is incumbent on all business people and private individuals to get behind a legend such as Bankie Banks who has done so much for Anguilla through Moonsplash and to ensure that this legacy he has created lives on. This can only happen if we, as a community, continue to give back, through him, so that the younger generation can understand how Moonsplash came about, what it is about and why it is important to preserve a legendary thing such as this.”
Replying, Bankie Banx described Mitchelle Lake’s contribution as “real touching.” He said that unlike some hurriedly set-up venues for concerts nowadays, the stage for Moonsplash was always an artistic creation and expression of what the function would be. He was grateful to a number of persons, and other sources, for their assistance over the years and said the help Mitch Lake provided meant that the funds he had for the stage could now be used to give something back to the community. He added that he admired what Mitch had done for the children and sports development by the establishment of the Anguilla Tennis Academy and wished him continued success.
Meanwhile, Bankie said arrangements for the March 16-19 Moonsplash at his Dune Preserve at Rendezvous Bay were proceeding smoothly and he was looking forward to the event with much excitement. “I think we are going to have a tip top Moonsplash this year. It is going to be the best of all times,” the entertainer stated. He was delighted that among the many high level performers coming from abroad for the moon-lit event were his original Roots & Herbs.
As part of Moonsplash, a feature will be a food, art and music street fair just outside Cable & Wireless, one of his main local sponsors. Among the functions will be the presentation of guitars to a number of youngsters. A spear-fishing tournament is also part of the Moonsplash event.
