Mr. Gumbs, who has been in the prison service for the past 20 years, served as Deputy Superintendent during Mr. Harrigan’s appointment.
“I think that my appointment as Superintendent is a well-deserved position,” Mr. Gumbs told the Anguillian. “I have worked really hard from my inception in the service and I have been supportive of the institution as much as possible. I waited until my turn came and now I am delighted about it.”
Mr. Gumbs had extensive internal training and recently attended a senior administrative course in Miami recently. The training opportunities were largely provided by the Overseas Prison Adviser, Christopher Gibbards. “It has been a blessing to me in the service,” he commented.
The newly-appointed Prison Superintendent expressed gratitude to a number of persons for supporting him over the years: Morgan Richardson, Former Superintendent Roy Baptiste, Christopher Gibbons, the Governor’s Office for assistance through the Good Government Fund, his wife Ena and son for understanding the time-consuming nature and sensitivity of his duties and their support.
