Mr. Bartlett gave an overview of the activities and achievements of the Chamber. He said that over the past year the organisation had made significant progress in restoring its image as a vibrant and meaningful trade and commerce body in Anguilla. “As we enter a new phase in our economic development, changes are occurring more rapidly,” he added. “With these changes come opportunities, which the Chamber is committed to embrace and share with our business community.”

Minister of Finance, Victor Banks, spoke about the development of a new relationship between the Anguilla Government and the Chamber. He said as Minister responsible for industry and commerce, since 1994, he had always encouraged the business sector to organise itself so as to speak authoritatively on relevant issues through a vibrant Chamber of Commerce.

He stated that his ministry had continually put in the Government’s budget a specific allocation to assist with an office for the Chamber. He explained that his feeling was that it was in Government’s interest to have a body which had the ability to collate and coordinate concerns and ideas of the business sector and then to speak with one voice.

Banks added that the budgetary allocation was Government’s investment in the partnership between the public and private sector that was most critical to Anguilla’s development.

During the meeting, there was an election of officers for the ensuing year. Those elected to serve on the Board of Directors are John Benjamin, Brent Davis, Valentin Davis, Kerwin Jn Baptiste, Vida Lloyd, Barbara Owen and Anthony Pickering.
