Evans Harrigan of East End had quite a surprise when he walked into a special service at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church in observance of his 80th birthday on January 26.

Mr. Harrigan is not only a well respected citizen in his community and a staunch member and chorister in his church. He has served the island with much diligence as a member of the early Anguilla Council at a time when brave and committed men were needed for leadership positions.
Known for his Christian faith and humility, Mr. Harrigan reflected, in thanksgiving, on his 80 years as follows:
“To our Heavenly Father, for keeping me safe and healthy and choosing the path I should take. To my parents and family for instilling in me the beatitudes of Christian living and for caring and sharing their unconditional love to me.
“To the many Priests and lay persons, past and present, who in a Christian setting, tried to mould our young lives to serve the Lord and our brothers and sisters on earth. To the Priests and Bishop aided by my family, friends and robed Choristers and Master who so wonderfully put their thoughts and plans together to give me a shocking surprise.
“To the organisers of the event who could have invited me to a restaurant but chose to organise a church service in the place I love to be. I thank all for entertaining me and those who spoke about my life and work. I thank those who telephoned me, sent messages by way of radio and cards and presented gifts.
“I thank my Heavenly Father for the wonderful things He has done for me and what He has planned for me in the future. I dare not count my blessings one by one, but by the millions.
“I must have done something good in the past that so many friends and well-wishers would speak so glowingly about me and for that and everything else, I thank everyone. May God bless us all.”
