The Valley, Anguilla’s capital, has been the subject of an urban study this week by a group of third year students from the School of Architecture at the University of Technology in Jamaica. The 27 students, mostly from Jamaica with others from Barbados, Trinidad and St. Kitts, came to Anguilla as part of their study course.

Susan Taylor, one of the two tutors accompanying the students, said their assignments included working on several architectural themes. “It is a very beautiful island,” she told The Anguillian. “We were a little taken aback by the town area which is unlike anywhere we have been before. It is not as centralised as we thought and it is also in the centre of the island as opposed to being on the coast which is a little unusual. In terms of doing an urban study, the island has been quite interesting because it is different and has allowed us to do some comparative studies also.”
In addition to the Valley, the students also studied the urban settlement at Sandy Ground where accommodation was provided for them at Sydans. During their stay of more than a week, they met with various persons in the public and private sectors for information on matters related to their study tour.
They will leave Anguilla on Sunday, January 29.
