FOR THE LOVE OF ANGUILLA: American Family Donates To Children, Groups


A sixth-time repeat visitor to Anguilla, David Small, his wife Robin and their five sons, made a significant contribution to social life on the island by donating some very much appreciative gifts to a number of children and groups.

The presentations were made on Tuesday evening at the Anguilla Yacht Club at Cul De Sac, owned by investors Mr. and Mrs. Gianfranco Comparetti, of Blowing Point, Mr. Small is the Managing Director and Chairman of an Investment Firm in Chicago, GROSVENOR Capital Management, L.P.

The large number of persons, including Government officials, were welcomed by Manager of Callaloo Club Villas, Patricia Bygrave, who chaired the proceedings.

Governor Alan Huckle welcomed “the generosity and charity” of the visiting family not only to the children but also to some of the key charitable organisations on the island. “Anguilla is a wonderful place,” the Governor told Mr. Small. “We get a lot of visitors who obviously contribute by their presence to the economy and development of Anguilla. It is actually few people who think about doing more so we are very grateful to you and I hope that your presence here and generosity will encourage others...I thank you very much on behalf of Anguilla.”

Minister of Finance and Tourism Victor Banks commended Mr. and Mrs. Small for their thoughtfulness. He said it was a good beginning for the future of the young people by showing them love and kindness and teaching them to appreciate that kindness. “I am grateful to visitors like yourself for making a contribution to the young people and Anguilla …after having come here for a number of years and feel that it is important to contribute to this society.”

Mr. Comparetti also expressed gratitude to the family for showing their appreciation of Anguilla through their donations. He thought it was an effort which should be emulated by other visitors who enjoy the hospitality of Anguilla and its people.

Replying, Mr. Small said that he and his family came to Anguilla six years ago and fell in love with not only the beautiful beaches, but with “the wonderful, warm, friendly people of Anguilla” thus attracting them back each year. “We wanted to make a very special contribution back to the community and the children…to re-invest in the people of Anguilla,” Mr. Small stated: He and his family are guests at Callaloo Club Villas.

The speeches were followed by the presentation of gifts to the children and the donations to the following organisations: The Soroptimist Club of Anguilla, US$1,000.00 (presented to Irma Richardson); the Anguilla Community Foundation, US$2,000.00 (presented to Carolle Devonish); the Anguilla Red Cross, US$1,000.00 (presented to Doreen James); and the Blowing Point Youth Development Committee, US$1,000.00 (presented to Brent Davis).

The Optimist Club, represented by its President, Monica Hodge, was presented with a donation of US$1,000.00 by Mrs. Maria Pia Comparetti on behalf of Callaloo Club Villas.
