He is Esenijo Bryan who will be receiving EC$1,000 per year until he completes Fifth Form. The presentation of his first cheque was made on Tuesday November 22 by Optimist President, Monica Hodge.

The award of the scholarship is part of a series of activities, this week, to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the club. The events were planned in recognition of the island’s youth and to help engage the adults in working with them.
Youth Appreciation Week and the projects it involves are intended to make children feel important and to highlight their positive contributions to society.

Since 1956, the international programme has given Optimist Clubs in many countries an opportunity to work with youth towards the common goals of education, career development, physical well-being and community service.

Youth Appreciation Week is designed to encourage a greater exchange of ideas between young people and adults. It offers Optimist Clubs the opportunity to make a community impact by holding one or more worthwhile events involving both adults and children.

The week fits in well with the motto of the Optimist Club, “Friend of Youth.”
