Peace At Last |
The Editor,
The Anguillian
Dear Mr. Editor:
PEACE AT LAST?
My understanding is that the controversial Physical Planning Bill and the Labour Bill have been withdrawn in their present state following the historic protests by the people of the island – and rightly so.
This withdrawal appears to be clear in one of the letters from the Chief Minister and circulated by the Concerned Citizens in last week edition of The Anguillian.
I was criticised by some persons, for the stance I took as a protester, but I am a firm believer in democracy and the preservation of the rights, culture and varied freedoms of our people. Those who are afraid to stand up and be counted are not true to their own convictions and must carry the guilt and blame if any of us should suffer the consequences of unjust and draconian laws.
The protests may be off for a season and I hope that our Government will see how vocal we can become when we feel our rights are being trampled upon.
May we all understand our responsibility to protect Anguilla and safeguard, at all times, the best interests and well-being of the people of our island nation.
God help us as we go forward and may peace and understanding always attend our path.
