Participation has been invited from all active youth groups, firms and government departments, as well as from informal youth groups and young people who are not members of groups at all. However, it is requested that all persons planning to attend the Congress should contact the Department at 497-3792 or fax 497-7999 and confirm their participation before Friday September 23.
The theme of the Congress, Youth and Health – Pillars for Anguilla’s Development, will be addressed by feature speaker John Lake of the National AIDS Programme.
According to an update on the planning process, the Interim Steering Committee and the Staff of the Department have finalized the programme and are working to ensure that the objectives of the Congress are met. One critical aspect of the day’s work is the nomination of candidates for leadership of the new Anguilla National Youth Council.
Meetings with youth groups are continuing in preparation for re-establishing membership to the Council and several groups have begun to identify their candidates. Following the nominations at the Congress there will be a period of campaigning preceding the election which is scheduled for December 2005. The Optimist Club of Anguilla is supervising the electoral process.
In addition to the work of the Congress, and the refreshments that will be served to participants, one of the more exciting aspects of the programme is a lunch hour concert featuring the Supreme Band and a short fashion show by Panache Couture.
The Department and Interim Steering Committee are expressing their thanks and gratitude to all persons and businesses providing support for the Congress.
