Work At Stoney Ground School Too Late |
The Editor,
The Anguillian
Dear Mr. Editor:
WORK AT STONEY
GROUND SCHOOL
TOO LATE
As a parent of two children attending the Stoney Ground Primary School, I am very supportive and happy about the improvements taking place there.
Surfacing and grassing of the school compound will mean controlling the water settlements, on occasions when it rains, and the dust at times of drought, both hazards to the students. Tiling of the classrooms will mean an end to dirty black floors, and overall, an improvement of the environment for students and teachers alike.
My problem, however, is that the timing of the work was not well handled given the fact that with the reopening of the school following the long summer vacation, the earthworks and the restoration of the wall fence are still in progress. This makes it very uncomfortable and probably frightening and dangerous for the younger children.
It is difficult to understand why this work could not have started soon after the closure of the school. Certainly the improvements, which could not have taken two months, would have been completed by now.
In all things, small and great, there is that need to do them right and with forward thinking.
